Three Blogs?

with one comment

One of my sons asked me yesterday why I do three blogs. “Maybe” he ventured, “because you can … or maybe because you’re retired.”

Well, those things help.

Then, of course, there is the fact that all my professional life has been spent working hard every day creating and expressing, hopefully, good stuff to be shared with anyone who might hear. A bit lonely at times, but definitely satisfying – and habit-forming. Blogging is a continuum of the work and play regularly done across a life-time.

But three blogs? It was an awkward discovery that pouring what I had to share into one blog was simply too fragmented. There were – and are – different aspects of who I am and what I have to share that never seemed to gracefully co-exist with each other.

There’s Always Something is a blog that is simply a free-wheeling journal. This is a fun blog that is apt to include almost anything that is going on in my life or imagination.

This one, East of Eden, deals with thought, aesthetics, poetry, religion and thoughtful quotes that I discover here and there. It attempts to be minimalist and to include some of the darker aspects of reality, as I understand reality.

My photo-blog, More Than We Thought, is pure photography. There are no words at all, only my photographs. I try do do stuff that will point beyond appearances and occasionally might choose one photo and work on it in different ways that probe not only what I saw, but what the image stimulated in my imagination once I started studying it through the eyes of an editor. This can lead to a “series” of variations on a theme, using just one picture.

If you do happen to check this site, or better, subscribe to it, if you will click on the day’s photo you will see the title. then automatically be sent back to the previous day’s photo. Then, click again; another. And so on. This becomes a virtual slide show and is one feature that I treasure; though it is not obvious that you can do it. This photoblog is the most popular of my three blogs, generally generating three times the “hits” as the other two combined.

But to just go for one blog, or to eliminate any of them would not seem to be being true to what I am – and am becoming at this good phase of my life.

The photoblog is daily. The other two are almost daily, with weekends off. There are other fish to fry on week-ends.

Three blogs – one blogger. Kind of fun when you get right down to it.

  1. Roger, I wrote a lengthy response to your “three blogs” in my post today. In short, I’m a fan.
