Etchings in the Sand…

Thoughts and Photos from the Desert…

Desert Landscaping…

I noticed that most people, in landscaping their yards here in suburban desert communities carefully arrange their rocks, cactus, trees and shrubs into geometrically balanced patterns.

Nothing like that in the real desert.

Your blog is really nice! I’ve got to say – it’s an inspiration.
You have gotten me intrigued, I would really like to know what one of these desert landscapes looks like.
I could use it as inspiration for one of the books I’m writing.
If you want to visit my website, you can look at it. through the link on my nickname.
    Tell me what you think.

Very astute observation, Citrus. Never once thought of that those years we lived in AZ, but you are quite correct. Desert placement is quite random, sometimes the result of some plants seeking the shade and/or protection of others, or some close to known gully areas where, if it rains, water will rush, other.

There is beauty in randomness, perhaps more so than in man’s imposition of patterns, organization, structure. Randomness has all that, too, but in a highly unique and special way that may not be replicated anywhere else on this planet … true art.

Thank you for this food for thought.
