I am remembering today how my Grandmother in Kentucky used to serve Sunday dinners that included Fried Chicken, Country Ham and Roast Beef – at one sitting! Add to this fresh from the garden Corn on the Cob, Green Beans, Tomatoes and Mashed Potatoes and Gravy and you get the picture of living high on the hog, to use an ancient phrase.
This was common fare in those days.
But nobody was fat.
She lived to be 86. Good people. Healthy. Happy. The table was a feast. Life was good.
Have you looked around the mall lately? No one seems to eat well. So many folks are grossly fat. Smiles are rare. Lots of edginess all around.
There’s a mystery here. Worth wondering about, I think.
