Etchings in the Sand…

Thoughts and Photos from the Desert…

I gave a speech yesterday.

There was a podium with a microphone, quite a bit of space and the audience at quite a distance from me. It felt very strange – almost lonely. I asked and received the host’s permission to move closer to the crowd, then found a tall barstool type chair, left the mike behind and planted myself right in the midst of the group. Several spontaneously adjusted their chairs so there could be some eye contact. It worked.

Reminded me of a quote that I came across the other day and, sad to say, forgot to note the source.

“A single word in intimacy is worth more than a thousand at a distance.” ~Evagrius Ponticus

I’m beginning to believe this.
